Beit Midrash Exploring The Thought of Rabbi Heschel and Rev. Dr. King

January 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Thursday, repeating indefinitely

Free

Come explore with Rabbi Stephen the unlikely relationship between two leading clergymen of the 20th century, Dr. King and Rabbi Heschel. These two men met during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. They became beloved colleagues in conversations where they were united by the force of their ideas and their audacious claims upon the conscience of America. Dr King and Rabbi Heschel met at a conference in 1963 on the topic of “Race and Religion.” The two became friends, and collaborated throughout the movement for Civil Rights, until King’s assassination in 1968. Rabbi Stephen will lead our adult education class in reading these two thinkers together. We will explore their theological relationship and mutual support in activism, elucidating what brought these two men of faith together, and what made these thinkers such a dynamic duo.
